4/15 The Civil Rights Movement was introduced with the question: What do you do when the rights the government promised has not been provided? Civil Rights was defined. Students brainstormed on the rights that were promised to Americans after the Civil War. We reviewed the Civil Rights given and denied during Reconstruction (13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments/sharecropping, literacy tests, poll taxes, grandfather clause, Jim Crow laws, segregation, and Plessy v Ferguson. We watched a clip on Emmit Til. Took notes on Brown v Board of Education.
4/16 Took notes on the Little Rock 9. "Eyes on the Prize" video clip. Began working on a Civil Rights Protest Comparative Chart by using a Civil Rights Virtual Tour website.
4/17-18 Students took notes comparing SCLC, SNCC, and CORE. Students added the protests at Albany, GA and Birmingham, AL to their protest chart. Took notes on Medgar Evers and the Civil Rights Act of 1964 from the textbook. Finished the Civil Rights Protest Comparative Chart.
4/22 Began taking Freedom Summer notes. Watched a clip from "Eyes on the Prize" on the Selma March.
4/23 Finished taking Freedom Summer Notes. Students began viewing "Remember the Titans" and must identify 5 examples seen in the movie that can relate to the Civil Rights Movement.
4/24-25 Took the Civil Rights Quiz, open note. Continued viewing "Remember the Titans".
4/13 Finished "Remember the Titans" and turned in the 5 examples. Worked on the Civil Rights study guide.
4/16 The study guide was checked for completion. We reviewed the study guide and finished with playing review Jeopardy.
4/17 Students took the Civil Rights Movement Test
